The Edit URL Tab Sheet
 The
"Edit / Preview URL" Window, Edit URL tab sheet.
The Edit / Preview URL Window allows you to define camera details, including
the path to the still or streaming images that Visual Hindsight
will display. The Edit URL Tab Sheet is divided into sections,
for easier editing.
The Camera Details section allows you to add, edit, and
delete identifying information for the specific camera to which
the URL points.
- Description: This is the friendly name you choose
for the camera. Valid examples are "The Office", "Home",
etc.
- Enabled: Enables or inhibits the corresponding camera
from appearing in any Camera Viewer Parent window. Useful when
you'd like to create an entry for later viewing. NB: Visual
Hindsight supports the simultaneous display of up to twenty
cameras in each Camera Viewer Parent window; the URL database,
however, can hold an unlimited number of entries.
- Camera Model: The camera model name, if known. Note
1: Assigning a camera model name will cause Visual Hindsight
to automatically input the URL Path field. Also, certain cameras
have Pan, Tilt, Zoom, Random and Preset Position capabilities
and more. When the camera model is assigned, and if the camera
supports the extended functions, you may be able to remotely
control the camera. Assign a camera model if known, or assign
a blank value if not. Note 2: The list of camera manufacturers
supported by Visual Hindsight is growing daily; please check
our site
for the most recent additions.
The Connection Details section allows you to configure
network details for the specific camera.
- Host Name: This is the name of the camera (typically
referred to as the host device). Valid entries include an IP
Address in the form 192.168.1.100, or a fully qualified HTTP
Address in the form www.mycamera.com.
- Port: This is the "channel" the camera
uses to communicate with the Visual Hindsight application. The
default port number is 80.
- URL Path: The directory where the streaming video
or still image is stored. Remember to use the UNIX path separator
(slash, "/" without the quotes), and not the Windows
path separator (backslash, "\"). Note: If the URL Path
is blank and a Camera Model is selected, the appropriate entry
will be inserted into the URL Path field.
- Extra Info: An area that contains extra parameters
regarding the camera video or still image. Extra information
comes in many forms; see your camera specifications for details.
The Security Details section allows you to input username
and password information. Note: Enter information in the username
and password fields only used if you've set username and password
values on your camera.
- User Name: If the camera is password protected, enter
the user name required to view streaming video or still image
from the camera.
- Password: If the camera is password protected, enter
the password for the user name described above.
- Use Secure Protocol (HTTPS): If the camera supports
HTTPS, you can enable secure transmissions by checking this
box.
The View Details section allows you to set various preferences
for the camera, such as image size, availability, and display.
- Stretch Image: Select this option to resize the image
according to the Camera Viewer window size. Note: This option
can be invoked dynamically from the Camera Viewer window
context sensitive menu (by clicking the right mouse button),
but setting the option here saves your preference,
and is automatically invoked whenever you display this Camera
URL.
- Automatically Reconnect On Disconnect: Setting this
option on will cause Visual Hindsight to automatically re-establish
a connection should the connection be broken.
- Display In View 1 through 5: This option must be
"checked" in order for this camera URL to be displayed
in the corresponding Viewer window. Note: Home and Viewer
Edition support only 1 window.
The Capture Details section allows you to configure properties
for captured (saved) images from the camera. For more information
on Visual Hindsight's handling of captured images, see also The
List Captured Footage Window. Note: This section does not
appear in Viewer Edition.
- Load Capture Details From Default: Use this option
to quickly fill the Capture Details fields with default values
you have previously defined.
- Start Capture Automatically On Connect: Use this
option to automatically start recording when a connection to
a URL is established.
- Capture Only On Motion Detection: Use this option
to record only when movement is detected.
- Motion Detection Sensitivity (-10 = least, 10 = most):
Specify the level of sensitivity appropriate to the images you
are recording. A setting of least sensitive will not record
scenes that "change" due to ambient noise. A setting
of most sensitive will record virtually all changes, including
those due to ambient noise.
- Capture Drive Specification: A different drive to
store video footage can be specified for each URL. Select either
"Local" to save to a drive located on the current
system (ie. C, D), or "Remote" to save to a drive
on a networked system. Remote drives include the machine name
and shared directory name. Note 1: Selecting a remote drive as
the capture video footage drive will add significant load to
the network, creating a slower response time, as more bandwidth
is required to receive and then re-transmit video frames. Note
2: The "Retention Manager - List Captured Footage"
window will now automatically scan all networked drives for
captured video footage. Note 3: The "Retention Monitor"
window will now automatically scan all networked drives for
captured video footage.
- Maximum Duration (HH:MM): Specify the hours and minutes
of video footage you want to record. To indicate non-stop recording,
use the value 24:00.
- Maximum File Size (MB, 0 = none): Specify the maximum
size the recorded AVI file can attain before a new file is created.
See Retention Monitor for details regarding recorded file age
/ total file size.
- Maximum Frame(s) Per Second(s): Specify the maximum
number of frames you wish to capture to disk every second. For
example, setting this value to a setting of 5 / 1 will instruct
Visual Hindsight to attempt to capture five frames every second.
Setting this value to 1 / 5 will instruct Visual Hindsight to
attempt to capture one frame every five seconds. Note:
This option
is hardware dependant; that is, the higher the frames per second
value, the more system resources such as computer processing
speed, memory, hard disk space, and bandwidth are required.
- Save Capture Details As Default: Use this option
to define default values for the Capture Details fields.
General Functionality:
- Order of Operations: When using the Edit URL window, you
should add or change the URL information first; this will enable
or disable the appropriate menu commands (Insert, Modify, Delete,
etc.).
- Message on Startup: When you invoke the Edit URL window,
it may display a message informing you that you are attempting to
load a new record, but that the current record was modified and
not saved, or changes made to it not discarded. This is to prevent
accidentally navigating to another record without having saved modifications
to the current record.
- Inserting New Records/Record Templates: When inserting
a new record, you may use the Clear menu selection to void all fields
in preparation for the record insertion. However, if the new record
contains fields similar to that of an existing record, you may wish
to use the existing record as a template for creating the new record.
Simply select the existing record, make the desired modifications,
and then use the Insert menu selection to create the new record.
- Modifying and Saving: When a URL record is modified, you
are prevented from navigating to another record; however, you are
permitted to close the window without further prompting. Note:
You are not prompted to save any changes you may have made to the
current URL record you are editing, so if you wish to save the record,
do so before closing the Edit / Preview URL window.
- Undo: The Undo Edit command is available only before having
saved your changes to the database.
- User Name and Password: In many cases, the User Name and
Password fields are case-sensitive for greater security. Be sure
and enter these fields as indicated in your camera specifications
guide.
From this window, the following menu commands are available:
